Have you ever heard that word, Old but Gold. It fits perfect on Galaxy Note 2 case. It is a old device but its performance it’s gold. The specs are impressive for the time it was announced. It’s a pity that Samsung doesn’t support this phone anymore. But this doesn’t matter. This phone is still alive thanks to Custom support. Developer still create ROMs and Kernels for this device.

Android 5.0 Lollipop has made its way to Galaxy Note 2. It’s not official, its only the latest version of CyanogenMod based on Android 5.0 Lollipop. CyanogenMod 12 which is the latest version of this ROM is ported to many Android devices, so users can enjoy the features of Lollipop. This ROM now is available for Galaxy Note 2. So if you own a Note 2 you can enjoy Lollipop features.

This ROM isn’t suggested to use as daily ROM. Developers are still working on it so there are few problems. For now only GPS and Mobile Data are reported as not working. This is reported by mostly of user who already tested this ROM. For a few other it seems to work fine. So if you like Lollipop give it a try. Follow the step by step guide below to install CyanogenMod Android 5.0 Lollipop on your Galaxy Note 2.

Preparations

  • This is a guide only for Galaxy Note 2 N7100. Don’t try installing it on other devices because it will result in phone bricking. To check your device version go to Settings -> About Phone and check the model number.
  • This is a Custom ROM and it needs a rooted device and a Custom Recovery installed. So make sure to root your phone and install a Custom Recovery like TWRP or CWM.
  • Backup everything just in case something goes wrong, so you still can access your data and restore them immediately.
  • Battery should be charged more than 60 %, so your phone will not go dead during the flashing process. If it goes dead it will result in soft bricking.

How To Install CyanogenMod Android 5.0 Lollipop on Galaxy Note 2 N7100

Download the following zip files and copy them to the root folder of the SDcard. Then reboot your device into Recovery Mode by pressing and holding the Volume Up + Power Button + Home key. Depending on the Custom Recovery you have installed follow the guide below:

TWRP Users

  • Once you are on Recovery tap on Backup and select System and Data and confirm.
  • Tap on Wipe button and select Cache, System, Data.
  • Go back to Main Menu and select install.
  • Find CM 12.zip and gapps.zip and swipe the slider to install
  • When installation is over your phone will be prompted to restart.
  • Select Reboot Now and wait for the phone to reboot.

 Philz & CWM Users

  • Using Recovery make a backup of your ROM. To do it go to Backup and Restore and chose Backup.
  • After the backup is complete go back to the Main Screen
  • Then go to Advance -> Wipe Dalvik Cache, so your device will not stuck in bootloop.
  • Select Wipe Data/Factory Reset.
  • Then go to Install zip from SDcard, a new window will open when you have to choose CM 12.zip that you have downloaded.
  • Wait for the process to finish.
  • Go back and flash Gapps.zip.
  • Wait for the installation to finish and then go back again.
  • Select Reboot Now.

Sometimes after the process finish, users get a Signature Verification Error. To solve it you have to Reboot to Recovery again and navigate to Install Zip from SDcard. Then navigate to Toogle Signature Verification and Press Power Button and check if it is disabled or not. Disable it and install the zip without any error. The first boot will take more than 5 minutes, so don’t worry and wait for it to finish.
