Samsung dropped the support for the Galaxy S3 long time ago. It even didn’t get the KitKat update. But there is a good thing being a popular device, developers will create Custom ROMs even though the manufacturer won’t release anymore OTA update.
No matter if you can’t get an official update, there will be always a Custom ROM available for it. Who will have ever imagined that the Galaxy S3 will receive Android 5.0 Lollipop? Well, it’s not an official update but still, you as a Galaxy S3 owner can test the Lollipop features.

We have seen a lot of devices receiving unofficially Android 5.0 Lollipop. Android Lollipop brought so many features and improvements. The user interface was completely redesigned. Besides this, this version had also a new architecture which made it hard for developers to update the custom ROMs.
As I always say in Android nothing is impossible so even in this case developers through hard work managed to create Custom ROMs based on Android Lollipop. An XDA Member named arter97 created a Custom ROM Android Lollipop for Galaxy S3. When we discovered this ROM it was in the early stage so it was not advised to use as your main ROM. However, the developer said it will update the ROM in the feature so you may want to make some research if it is updated and ready to be used as a daily driver.

Install AOSP Android 5.0 Lollipop ROM on Galaxy S3
This ROM will work only on Samsung Galaxy S3 GT – I9300. Do not try to install it on other phone versions because you may end with a bricked device. Go to Settings >> About Phone and check the Model Number.
- Download and move the ROM file to clockworldmod > backupbackup folder.
- Boot into Recovery and wipe Dalvik Cache, Cache and Data.
- Go to Backup and Restore > Restore from SDcard and restore Lollipop ROM
- Flash arter97 kernel.
- Reboot your phone.
- That’s all.
