Do you want to update your Galaxy S to Android 6.0 Marshmallow? In this guide we are going to show you the only way to enjoy Marshmallow on your old Samsung Galaxy S device. It might be a older phone but the developers still create goodies for it and the last one is OmniROM which is based on Android 6.0.
First of all I want to say that this ROM is not stable and it might not be a smart choice to use it as a daily driver. However if you like to test Android 6.o on your Galaxy S than this is the best way to do it. According to the developer the ROM will be ready in a couple of days but you can stay informed by visiting the XDA thread.
If you are not used with installing ROMs and if you don’t know how to mess up with your device if something goes wrong than better learn what is a Custom ROM and ways to install it and then come back here to start installing OmniROM Android 6.0 on Galaxy S.
Warning
We shall not held any responsibility for any kind of damage it may happen to your phone. Remember this ROM is still in an alpha stage and it might be unstable. Some things might not work properly so make sure to follow all the steps below carefully. This ROM is not ready yet to be used as a daily driver, but you can install it to try a glimpse of Android 6.0 Marshmallow on Galaxy S.
Early Preparations
- Before doing any modifications to the system we always recommend doing a backup of your current ROM. The easiest way is to do a Nandroid backup but you can use third-party applications also.
- Make sure you have root access and a Custom Recovery installed. We recommend using TWRP.
- Charge your phone up to 60% so it won’t shut down during the installing process.
Downloads
- Download OmniROM Android 6.0 Marshmallow for Galaxy S and other things you need. Click here.
- Google Apps (Gapps).
How To Install OmniROM On Samsung Galaxy S I9000
- Turn off your phone and boot it into Recovery.
- Format data partition f2fs and a a full wipe using TWRP. Wipe data, cache, system, everything.
- Flash the ROM zip file.
- Flash Gapps, make sure to flash a small package of Gapps because if you install full package it may cause heavy slowdowns or maybe failure because of the lack of space.
- Permissions need to be fixed but it’s very slow in this stage. So I recommend you to wait to avoid any issue.
- Once it finishes, reboot your phone and wait for a while.
- Set overclock to 1400 mhz and minimum to 200 so avoid lag.
- Once the setup is complete reboot your device.
That’s all. You have successfully installed Android 6.0 Marshmallow on Samsung Galaxy S. For more information about this ROM visit the official thread.
