To edit build.prop you must have root access. Here is a detailed guide how to root Google Pixel and Pixel XL with SuperSU. Once you get root access the next step is to install a File Explorer such as ES File Explorer. It’s free on Play Store.
Open your favourite File Explorer, it doesn’t have to be ES File Explorer. There are plenty of them such as Root Explorer, Total Commander and so on. Open it and go to /system and find a file named build.prop.
Open it with a file editor and look for the following command:
-
ro.opa.eligible_device=true
Change it to:
-
ro.opa.eligible_device=true
Save the file and reboot your phone and clear Google App data. After you follow these steps you will no longer see Google Assistant.
If you want to revert back to Google Assistant follow the same steps, look for the same line and change the value back to ‘true’. Save the file, reboot the phone, clear Google App data and that’s all.
