Getting things prepared

• Enable USB Debugging. Go to Settings > Developer Options > USB Debugging. If you can’t find Developer Options go to Settings > About Phone > Tap 7 times on Build Number and a message will show up “You are now a developer. Developer Options is now enabled.
• Download and install the proper Samsung USB Drivers on your computer otherwise, your computer won’t be able to recognize the phone.
• Charge the phone at least 60% hence it won’t shut down unexpectedly during the root process.
• Download and install Minimal ADB Driver somewhere on your computer when later you can find it easily.
• Download SuperSU and put it on your phone internal storage.

How to install TWRP Recovery on Samsung Galaxy J2

ADB Method

• Locate the Minimal ADB tool folder on your PC.
• Download TWRP Recovery, extract the zip file and move it to this folder.
• Rename it to recovery.img. Be careful because in Windows file extension is hidden. Make sure not to save it recovery.img.img. To avoid this go to Start > Folder Options > View tab > and uncheck the “Hide Extensions for Known File Types”. Click Ok.
• Run Minimal ADB Tool and type the following code:

fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

• If the flashing process will be successful your phone will restart automatically.

Odin Method

You can install TWRP Recovery also using ODIN flash tool. It is a tool designed to flash the firmware, recoveries, and everything on Samsung devices. To flash TWRP Recovery on Galaxy J2 via ODIN follow the steps below:

1. Turn off your phone and boot into Download Mode. Press and hold Volume Down + Home + Power Key.
2. Open Odin and connect your phone to PC via an USB cable.
3. If the computer recognizes the phone, the box next to ID:COM will become blue.
4. Click on the AP tab and select the recovery file. Make sure the recovery has a .tar.md5 extension.
5. Click Start and wait for Odin to flash the file.
6. Your phone will reboot automatically and TWRP Recovery will be installed.

Whatever method you have chosen, the home TWRP recovery is now installed on your Galaxy J2. To Boot the phone into recovery press and hold Volume UP + Home + Power Button at the same time.

How to Root Galaxy J2

Now that you have installed TWRP recovery is pretty easy to root the phone. Here’s how to do it:

• Turn off your phone and boot into recovery.
• Tap on the install section and locate the SuperSU file you have already downloaded and put to your phone internal storage.
• Swipe to confirm and flash the recovery.
• Once it is flashed go back to recovery main menu and Wipe Cache and Dalvik Cache.
• Go back to Recovery main menu and restart your phone.

When your phone is turned on, go to App drawer and you will see SuperSU installed. If it’s not, download it from Play Store.
