How to Enable Google Assistant on Nexus 6P Nougat NBD90X

When Google announced Pixel and Pixel XL, they also revealed that Google Assistant will be exclusive only for Pixel devices. But it might not be totally true and in this article you are going to learn how to enable Google Assistant on Nexus 6P NBD90X Nougat build.

Google Assistant is the new release of Google’s artificial intelligence for Android devices. The first one was Google now and later they released Now on Tap that was better than Google Now. It could analyze the content display on the phone screen and try to give the best possible solutions.

The newest “Google Assistant” is a combination of both and I can say it’s a way better. If you really thought it is available only for Pixel devices than you’re totally wrong. A developer at the XDA-community found a way how you can get Google Assistant on Nexus 6P NBD90X.

Actually Google Assistant just need to be enabled because it is present on Nexus 6P NBD90X firmware. So you can easily enable it by following one of the two methods below.

How to enable Google Assistant on Nexus 6P Android Nougat

There are two ways to get Google Assistant on Nexus 6P. You can either flash a zip file or edit the build.prop. I would go for the zip file because it’s easier and safer. The risk of bricking your device is lower. For this you will need a custom recovery. The best you can find is TWRP, make sure you have the latest version installed.

Before going to flash the zip file or modify the build.prop check your phone firmware. It should be NBD90X build. If it’s not, don’t try this method because you may end in a soft bricked device.

Method 1 – Flash zip file

You must have a custom recovery installed. Here’s a guide how to install a Custom Recovery on Nexus 6P.

  • Download the mod.zip file and put on your phone internal storage.
  • Turn off your phone and boot into recovery.
  • Wipe cache and Dalvik cache.
  • Go to the install section and select the mod.zip you downloaded from the link above.
  • Reboot your phone.
  • Enjoy.

Method 2 – Edit build.prop

To edit build.prop you need root access and also a file manager such as ES File Manager or Root Explorer.

  • Open your favourite file explorer and open build.prop with a file editor.
  • Replace or add this lines to the file.
ro.product.model=Pixel XL
ro.opa.eligible_device=true
  • Save it and restart your phone

    Hi Dory, the link actually opens up 3 files to download, not just one. I’m assuming we flash both zip files in TWRP, but what about the tweak.prop? Where does that go please?

    Thanks!
