How To Fix Code 10 Error (Device Can Not Start) In Device Manager – Samsung Mobile MTP Device

Code 10 error, Device can’t start, in device manager is problem which happen when you attach the phone to PC using a USB cable. You have to install the drivers to have a succesful connection. So be sure to download always the latest drivers extracted from the Samsung Kies Package. Here is a good thread from XDA Developers where you can find Samsung USB drivers for mobile phones.

The problem is that not all the drivers are installed successfully. One of them ‘Samsung Mobile MTP Device’ cannot be installed, since there is a Code 10 (device cannot start).

You may find many articles about this problem but none of them has a right solution. I have checked all of them, because this problem happens to me also. I have search for hours for a working solution, but nothing was useful. After spending much time we found that it wasn’t a faulty driver problem.

How To Fix Code 10 Error (Device Can Not Start) In Device Manager - Samsung Mobile MTP Device

After many hours spending to solve this problem, we found the solution:

  • Go to Registry Editor (Start > Run > Regedit and press Enter
  • Search the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\
  • If you click one of the few subkeys in class (e.g. {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}) you’ll find the string value (Standard) on the right side with a value (e.g. DVD/CD-ROM-Drives)
  • You have to find the value “Portable Devices” on the string value (Standard) (In my case {EEC5AD98-8080-425f-922A-DABF3DE3F69A}, but I don’t know if they are called always the same.
  • Once found, you see a string value called UpperFilters > DELETE IT!
  • Now your Samsung Mobile MTP Device should be recognized and even installed correctly right away. (The name of the device changed to GT-I9100 (Devicemanager) in my case…)
