A XDA Senior Member named as “ronin790″ created a zip file which contains all the necessary tools to update Moto G to Android 5.1 Lolipop Google Play Edition, root it and then install TWRP recovery. So if you want to save time performing many guides to perform these action, go ahead and follow the steps below.
You also can change the boot logo animation to a new one and if you don’t like it, install the default logo again.

Preparations
- This guide is only for Moto G Google Play Edition. Do not try it on any other phones because it may result in bricked device.
- Make sure to backup all the important data and files on your phone so you will not lose them if something goes wrong.
- Charge your phone up to 70% so it will not shut down during the installation of the ROM or rooting process.
Downloads
This package contains:
- GPE Lollipop 5.1 ROM.
- Adb setup to install adb, fastboot and PC drivers.
- SuperSU 2.46.
- TWRP Recovery 2.8.6.0
- Dark Moto Logo.
- Restore to default (logo and stock recovery).
How To Install Lollipop 5.1 On Moto G GPE
- Download the rar package from link below on your computer.
- Extract it and open the extracted folder.
- Find a folder named Tools and open it.
- Install “adb-setup-1.4.2.exe.
- Turn of your phone and boot into Download Mode. Press Volume Down + Power Button.
- Connect the phone to PC via a USB cable.
- Go to Gpe_5.1_OneClick and run the Flash_Gpe_5.1.bat.
- Wait until it finish and reboot your phone.
How To Root & Install TWRP Custom Recovery On Moto G Lollipop 5.1
- Copy the “Update-SuperSU-v2.46.zip” from ROOT-RECOVERY folder to SDcard.
- Boot your Moto G into Download Mode.
- Connect to PC via a USB cable.
- From ROOT-RECOVERY folder run “flash_recovery.bat”
- Select the Recovery and from installed TWRP install “UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip”
Restore Stock Recovery
- Put your phone into Download Mode.
- Connect it to PC
- From the default folder, run flash_recovery.bat
- Reboot.
Bonus tip – Change boot animation logo
- Put your phone into Download Mode.
- Connect it to PC via USB cable.
- From the Dark_MotoLogo run “flash_logo.bat.bat”
Restore default logo
- Turn of your phone.
- Boot into Download Mode.
- Connect to PC via USB cable.
- From default folder run “flash_logo.bat”
