Update Moto E To Android 5.1 Lollipop With CyanogenMod 12.1

An unofficial port of CyanogenMod 12.1 is available to install on Moto E. Motorola devices are the first devices to receive not only the official Android update but also the Custom ROMs update. CyanogenMod 12.1 is the latest build of the most famous Custom ROM for Android devices which made its way to Moto E.

CyanogenMod 12.1 is based on Android 5.1 Lollipop. This version of Android brings some important fixes over the 5.0 Lollipop. The most important it fixed the memory leak issues reported on Lollipop 5.0. It also introduces a new security feature that will make your phone more secure.

The new build of CyanogenMod 12.1 is also improvee to increase the overall system performance and it is the perfect choice you can make for your phone. Unfortunately the CyanogenMod 12.1 for Moto E is on the early stage and not every thing work correctly.

You may not record video even though the app look like it’s working fine. Also the first slot of sim card, in dual sim variant will cause system crash if you put a sim card on it. The second slot is working fine. Everything else seem to work fine but you can investigate by yourself. So to install CyanogenMod 12.1 on Moto E follow the guide below.

Requirements

  • Root access. Make sure your phone is rooted before going further.
  • Install a Custom Recovery like TWRP or CWM.

Preparations

  • This ROM is only for Moto E. Do not flash it on other devices because it will result on bricked device and you will need a long time and hard work to install a stock firmware.
  • Always make a backup of your current ROM. It will protects you in case something goes wrong. If you don’t succeed in installing CyanogenMod 12.1 on Moto E, you still can restore your previous ROM and your personal files will not be lost.
  • Make sure your phone is charged at least 70% so it will not shut down unexpectedly during the installation process.

Installing For The First Time

  • Turn off your phone.
  • Boot into Recovery.
  • Wipe Data, Cache, Dalvik Cache and Factory Reset.
  • Flash the CyanogenMod 12.1 zip file.
  • Flash Gapps.
  • Reboot.

Upgrading From Other Custom ROM

  • Boot into Recovery.
  • Wipe Cache and Dalvik Cache.
  • Flash ROM.
  • Flash Gapps.
  • Reboot.

The first boot may take more time than usually but it’s normally. Wait for your phone to reboot and it will be running CyanogeMod 12 on Moto E.
