Did your Google Nexus or Pixel device fail to receive the latest Android Pie update?
Or it isn’t available in your country yet?
Normally, your Android device should receive and install over-the-air (OTA) updates to the system and application software. But sometimes due to different issues, it can happen that some devices may not receive it even if the manufacturer, in this case, Google, has rolled out the official update.
The good news is that now you can download Android 9 Pie OTA Images for the latest Google Pixel and Nexus Devices. The first Developer preview images dropped about a few months ago. They were just a preview and were released for developers to test their apps and also get the code and create their custom builds.
After the last developer preview, it seems that the official build of Android 9 Pie has arrived and now they are available to download. People who own a Google Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2, Pixel 2XL and the latest Nexus devices can download the official Android 9 Pie OTA Images.
Before going any further with the download links for the Android Pie official OTA Images for Nexus and Pixel devices, let me tell you when the OTA image does to your phone.
OTA (over the air) update is useful when you want to restore your device to the original factory firmware. They mostly come in handy when your device fails to receive an OTA update automatically. It has the same effect as flashing a factory image but without the need to unlock the bootloader and wipe the device.
Nexus and Pixel devices are the first that receives the latest Android updates. Being supported directly by Google these devices have the best support when it comes to the latest Android version. While other devices such as Samsung, HTC, Sony etc have to wait for the manufacturer to roll out the update, usually it can take up months for the official update to come.
Android Pie is a big update over the previous version and among a plethora of features, the one worth mentioning are:
- Gesture Navigation
- Recent App Switcher
- New Material Design
- Digital Wellbeing & Slices
“Digital Wellbeing” is a brand new feature. It may sound weird but the point is to help people use their phone less. It’s a suite of tools to help people get off their phone. This feature hasn’t rolled out yet but it will be available this fall for the non-beta users. If you are interested you can sign up here.
